Media Sensitisation on TB Mukt Bharat held in Chandel

Chandel, June 23: In a move to reach out to more people and help spread the awareness on Tuberculosis (TB), the District Health Society, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, Chandel on Monday organised a Media Sensitisation on Janbhagidari for TB Mukt Bharat at the District Tuberculosis Centre (DTC), Chandel.

The event was attended by media persons from Chandel and Kakching area.

Addressing the event, Dr. Tongen Roel, in-charge of District Tuberculosis Office spoke on the role of Media in helping spread awareness on Tuberculosis. As much as the government is putting all efforts to spread awareness on TB, the role of Media is very important as it can reach out to far flung through print and electronics, Dr. Roel said.

She also informed that a 100-Day TB Campaign was carried out in the district with the help of State TB Office from December 2024 to March 2025. During the campaign, 583 sputum samples were tested from vulnerable areas of which 21 were positive, the Doctor said. She added that they could not complete all the tests from the areas during the 100 Days Campaign but that they are continuing with the testing even after the campaign days are over.

Dr. Roel also appealed to the public to co-operate with the office in the testing of samples to make the district a TB-free district.

And informing that though there is an X-ray machine for screening of TB, she lamented that there was not proper room to keep the machine in the district tuberculosis centre. Moreover, she appealed to the concerned authorities for a portable X-ray machine and a vehicle so that they can reach out to far flung places and extend the screening of sputum samples and TB.

As part of the fight against TB and provide patients with nutritious food, Dr. Th. Joyson Monsang, CMO, Chandel, distributed food baskets at its office in Chandel.

The food basket distribution was attended by Dr. Tongen Roel, in-charge of District Tuberculosis Office along with staff of the office.
