Child Dies in Retaining Wall Collapse at Hamleikhong, Ukhrul

Ukhrul, August 13: Tragedy struck Hamleikhong Block 1, Ukhrul, on Monday when a retaining wall collapsed on the western side of the area, injuring three children from the same family. The wall collapse partly destroyed the family’s home in Hamleikhong Block 1, near Ukhrul Mini Secretariat.

Ukhrul headquarters has been experiencing excessive rain over the past months.

According to CO Ukhrul Police, the victims, Tharchuilan Lunghar (9), Ringsik Lunghar (6), and Chishin Lunghar (1 year, 7 months), were immediately evacuated to Ukhrul District Hospital.

The two sisters, Tharchuilan and Ringsik, received first aid and were discharged. However, the one-and-a-half-year-old boy, Chishin Lunghar succumbed to his injuries.

Ukhrul Times has learnt that the wall that collapsed on Monday is a land gifted by AS Arthur to his children to retain as family land.

The last rites of the child is scheduled to be held at their native Tushar Village. The incident has left the community in deep mourning.
