Chingai MLA Khashim joins health staffers in launching Covishield vaccine in Ukhrul

Chingai MLA Khashim Khashim joined the district administration and the authority of Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) in launching the much-awaited Covid-19 vaccination drive here on Saturday.

Attending the vaccine roll-out event at UDH as a special guest, MLA Khashim Vashum boosted the morale of the healthcare workers of the district by lauding the selfless services rendered by the district’s doctors, nurses and other staffers of the health department in combating the public health disaster Covid-19 pandemic.

“You all have been serving on the front-lines to contain the Covid-19 pandemic by taking a great risk of your own lives,” he acknowledged the commendable contributions of the healthcare workers.

The MLA then conveyed that the first round of vaccination is aimed at inoculating the healthcare workers on a priority basis considering the risk involved in their daily duties.

In the same way, MLA Khashim extended his appreciation for the services rendered by other frontline workers like the police, government servants and members of civil society in the battle against the virus.

On the day of the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, Ukhrul CMO Dr AS Kapangring became the first person to get first shot of Covishield vaccine followed by Dr Athing incharge of Ukhrul Covid Care Centre, TK Woodland and UDH Medical Superintendent Dr Reisangmi Raikhan in the presence of MLA Khashim, Ukhrul DC Joseph Pauline Kamson and Additional SP Ringthing Hongchui.

A total of 101 healthcare workers were selected for inoculation on the first day of the vaccination drive. However, some of beneficiaries reportedly gave it amiss due to certain reasons like medical conditions and breastfeeding.
