Ukhrul, June 30: Thangboi Haokip, also known as Thahpi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Kuki National Organisation/Kuki National Army (KNO/KNA), and two of his bodyguards were allegedly shot and killed by unidentified gunmen on Monday afternoon between Mongjang and Singlun villages in Churachandpur district.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 2 PM while the trio was travelling in a Hyundai Creta. They were reportedly fired upon at close range by the assailants.

A woman passerby was also allegedly struck by a stray bullet during the incident and later succumbed to her injuries at Churachandpur District Hospital, sources added.
As of the time of filing this report, no organisation, underground group, or individual(s) had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police report:
Today ie 30/06/2025 at 1:30 PM, District Police received a reliable information that on the same day at around 1:05 PM some unknown armed miscreants have shot dead three unknown male and one unknown female at K Mongjang Village, CCPur. The three unknown male dead bodies were found inside one Hyundai Creta Car (white in colour) with bullet ridden holes on the body of the vehicle whereas one unknown female dead body was found lying dead nearby the place of incident.
Hence a suo moto case under FIR No. 109(06)2025 CCP-PS u/s 103/3(5) BNS, 25(1-C) Arms Act is registered against the unknown armed miscreants for investigation.
Later the deceased persons were identified and kept in the district hospital morgue.
