Ukhrul, June 27: Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC) has submitted a five-day ultimatum to the government and warned of launching agitation if their demands are not met within the stipulated time.
The CMUC, formed by five CSOs, on Thursday wrote a letter addressed to the Manipur Governor and chief secretary reiterating its demands seeking urgent attention to the pending issues of Churachandpur Meitei Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

It reminded the concerned authority that the committee had submitted memorandums on March 13, 2025 and April 21, 2025 highlighting the critical issues faced by the Meitei IDPs from Churachandpur. However, the issue remains unresolved.
It may be mentioned that CMUC had submitted a two-point memorandum to the Governor and chief secretary on March 13, 2025 and another four-point memorandum to the Governor, chief secretary and Bishnupur DC on April 21, 2025 highlighting the grievances of the Meitei IDPs from Churachandpur.

Consequently, a six-point memorandum was submitted to the Governor and chief secretary on Thursday seeking immediate intervention on the charter of demands mentioned in the memorandums.
Their demands included:
1. Sanctioning educational package for IDP students studying in both government and private schools and colleges
2. To allow management of relief camps by the IDPs to ensure that the needs and grievances of the IDPs are addressed more effectively
3. Expedite documentation process for the IDPs
4. Resettlement of IDPS to their respective places and provide adequate support and security measures to facilitate their safe and dignified return.
5. Allocate livelihood support through employment opportunities under a dedicated livelihood programme as per the skill act available with the IDPs
6. Arrangement of temporary shelters at Phougakchao Ikhai, Bishnupur district until a safe return to Churachandpur is feasible.
The committee warned that it will launch democratic forms of agitation if the six-point demands are not fulfilled within five days. Meitei IDPs from Churachandpur are living in at least 46 relief camps following the ethnic violence in Manipur that broke out in May 2023.
