Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday said that the state government will review the manner in which gun licenses are issued in the state.
This comment of the chief minister came in the backdrop of the killing of Laishram Rameshwor Singh (57), the convener of ex-servicemen cell of BJP Manipur Pradesh on Tuesday.
Police accused one Ayekpam Keshorjit (46) of killing the BJP leader using a license gun. The accused surrendered to the police late Tuesday evening along with his license gun (.32 pistol).
Given the development, the Chief Minister said that the criteria of issuing gun licenses will be reviewed. The chief Minister also expressed serious concern over the incident of misusing license gun.

“There is a need for relooking whether gun licenses were issued to those who actually needed arms to protect themselves,” he added.
“Whether they (gun license holders) truly need arms or whether their lives were actually under threat and whether they met the criteria for possessing arms is needed to be relooked,” Biren added.
The chief minister was talking to media persons on the sideline of a condolence service for the late BJP leader at the party office in Imphal today.
