Senapati, Dec 13: Cultural Session of the ongoing 3rd State Level Barak Festival was inaugurated by N. Biren Singh, Chief Minister, Manipur as the chief guest. The occasion was also graced by Khasim Vashum, Minister, Animal Husbandry/Veterinary and Transport as the functional President, Th. Basanta Singh, Minister, Education, Law & Legislative Affairs and L. Dikho, MLA, 48-Mao AC as the guests of honour, MLA Haokholet Kipgen and MLA Ram Muivah as special guests respectively.
Peter Yonuo, President, Senapati District Students Association while calling the state CM as the people’s CM stated that the festival is observed to give the message to the state and to the world. The festival means to showcase the rich culture of the region that has been inherited from the forefathers and to preserve them.

MLA Losii Dikho in his speech stated the importance to promote, preserve and save the Barak which is the life giver to people of the district as well as the state. While lauding the state CM, the MLA mentioned that the state CM is known for his contribution, dedication and his vision is a very known fact to all.
While normalcy has returned to the state through the leadership of Biren Singh as the state CM, the MLA asserted that Manipur is one of the most peaceful states in the Northeast. Barak Festival is not just for fun but a celebration to create awareness to the people to protect and conserve nature as the river Barak is the life giver of the region. The MLA also sought the favour of the state CM to set up Barak River Development Board in the district and to sanction external sewerage project in Senapati district to become the first hill districts in the state in introducing sewerage project in near future.

Addressing the gathering, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that he wants to transform practically in his mission. People in the past look at the politicians as thief, cheater, or who cannot be trusted who stated to be totally against such manners. According to him, a politician or social leader should accomplish what one has spoken out, committed or promised should deliver to the people. The festival is stated to show the importance of Barak River, importance of nature, forest and water that made the organisers to celebrate the festival through coordination with different civil organization leaders of Senapati. While stressing the importance of the Barak River, the chief minister stated that the day the river dries up, people cannot survive. The festival is reported to have shifted from Senapati bazaar to Khabung Karong near the Barak river who is delighted to see the greenery and feel the cool air near the river. The CM lauded the participants for all the different cultural items with different synopsis that were showcased during the program. Chief minister while appealing all to save the mother earth by preserving the forest and rivers, said that Senapati has created a history to save the mother earth through Barak festival.

Different cultural display followed with cultural dance from Mao cultural troupe, Maram cultural troupe, Zeliangrong cultural troupe, Thangal cultural troupe, Nepali cultural troupe and Thadou Kuki cultural troupe.
The evening session would continue with Miss Barak contest and DJ Night.
