Ukhrul, Feb 4: The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) has called for a mass public rally and total shutdown in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts on February 12th, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This is in protest against what was described as the “coercive and dissensus” construction of border fencing and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border by the Government of India.

The rally will take place at the Chandel District Headquarters with the total shutdown extending throughout the entire Naga areas of 41-Chandel and 42-Tengnoupal.

The decision was collectively adopted by the CNPO, Tribe Hohos, NSUC, and NCAC during an emergency General Body Meeting held on February 3, 2025, via Resolution No. 1.

The CNPO, representing the 11 Naga Tribes of Chandel, has strongly urged the general public to strictly adhere to the notice, fully cooperate, and participate in the democratic protest.
