Coal miner killed in Meghalaya, another injured

Shillong: A coal miner died while another was injured after they were trapped inside an illegal coal mine in the West Khasi Hills district.

The incident took place at Goreng (Urak) under Shallang police station on Thursday night.

Confirming the news, district police chief, Herbert G Lyngdoh said two labourers were pulled out of the coal mine and unfortunately one of them died while another was injured.

He informed that police have been sent to the place of occurrence for inquiry. “I am still waiting for a detailed report on the incident.”

The deceased has been identified as Lependro Sangma (32) while the injured miner as Hendid Momin (33). Both was/is from Uguri (Goraimari) under the Kharkutta police station,” Lyngdoh said.
