Meghalaya: Truck Rams School Bus in Ri-Bhoi, Student Killed, Several Injured

SHILLONG: A truck laden with clinker rammed into a stationary school bus claiming the life of a school student and injuring several others along NH-6 at 17th Mile Pahamlang in Ri-Bhoi district on Thursday morning.

According to reports the school bus ferrying students of Mount Zion Academy, Byrnihat halted to pick students up. Police reported that the incident occurred at around 8:15 am when a truck (NL 01 AA 4672), departing from Guwahti to Shillong crashed into the rear end of the school bus.

The impact damaged the school bus which had around 20 students onboard. 7 students were critically injured and were transferred to hospitals in Guwahati for advanced treatment while others with minor injuries were admitted to Byrnihat Primary Health Centre.

Police later confirmed that a school boy named Maxwell Lyngdoh tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Police personnel from the Byrnihat Police Outpost reached the site soon after the crash and initiated an investigation.
