Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has withdrawn its boycott of the Manipur state government with immediate effect.

The COCOMI had been boycotting the Manipur government since August 6 last when the latter failed to convene an emergency session of the legislative assembly and inept handling of the ongoing unrest in the state which has so far claimed over 180 lives.

Addressing a press conference at the COCOMI office here on Wednesday, coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that they have decided to lift the boycott after a threadbare deliberation of the pros and cons of the boycott coupled with calls given by various organizations, stakeholders, individuals and intellectuals.

He informed that COCOMI also received an invitation from the state government to discuss some priority issues like the effective implementation of NRC in the state and the resettlement of people displaced by the ongoing ethnic conflict.

Stating that COCOMI has been working tirelessly for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state, the coordinator sought people’s further support for the initiative of the apex body.

Some four months ago, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) had declared an indefinite social boycott of the Manipur government for allegedly defying the people’s resolutions taken on July 29 rally against narco-terrorism, especially of convening a special assembly session within August 5.
