Imphal: Members of the Women Wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) staged a protest on Tuesday outside the Sanjenthong residence of Agriculture Minister Th. Biswajit Singh. They demanded the resignation of MLAs and ministers, accusing them of failing to protect Manipur’s integrity and address the threat posed by Kuki narco-terrorists.
The protest commenced with a public rally starting from Lamyanba Shanglen in Konung Mamang and ending at the minister’s quarters. However, Minister Th. Biswajit was reportedly away on a personal matter and was not present during the protest.
During the rally, COCOMI Women Wing Coordinator Y. Lairikleima stressed the ongoing attacks on Meitei villages by Kuki narco-terrorists, which have inflicted significant suffering and hardship over the past 14 months. She criticized both the central and state governments for their inability to resolve the crisis peacefully and demanded that they publicly disclose their plans to restore peace in the state.
Y. Lairikleima strongly opposed the demands of the 10 Kuki MLAs and their supporters for a separate homeland within Manipur. She stressed that the 34 communities residing in the state would resist any move to meet these demands. She also called for the resignation of the remaining 50 MLAs if they cannot protect Manipur’s integrity and restore peace, suggesting that the people themselves should govern and protect the state.
The protesters also criticized the Security Advisor for being indifferent to the public’s hardships during the ongoing turmoil. Placards with slogans such as “Indian Government Should Stop Supporting Kuki Narco-Terrorists,” “India Cannot Sell Manipur to Kuki Narco-Terrorists,” and “Kuki War Being Conditioned by Indian Government” were prominently displayed during the rally.
