Combing Ops in Chandel District Stir Concerns Among Naga Community: Chandel Naga People’s Organization

Published on

Chandel:  The Chandel Naga People’s Organization (CNPO) had said that the weekly combing operation plan set to take place from June 24 to June 29, 2024, targeting specific villages under Chandel Police Station and Chakpi Karong Police Station in Chandel District, has alarmed and disturbed the Naga community in the area.

The CNPO in a press release Tuesday said the general populace are unable to understand the rationale behind such operations, considering that Chandel District has been a “peace zone and the Naga inhabitants have remained neutral despite ongoing ethnic violence in other parts of Manipur for several months.”

The CNPO further expressed that the combing operations have disrupted the peaceful existence of the Naga people, causing fear, mental harassment, and widespread criticism. The Chandel Naga body argue that while such operations might be necessary in violence-affected zones, they are unwarranted in Chandel District, which has not been involved in the ethnic conflicts.

While it appealed to the concerned authorities to immediately revoke the combing operation plan and any related activities in Chandel District, CNPO urged for the restoration of peace, harmony, and tranquility in the district.
