Imphal: The Congress party in Manipur on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Life Assurance Corporation (LIC) in Imphal’s Khoyathong joining AICC’s nationwide demonstration, seeking an impartial investigation into the allegations made against the Adani group in the Hindenburg Research report.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) extended solidarity to the AICC and sought the probe to be conducted either under the watch of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) or by a joint parliamentary committee (JPC).
They alleged that the Modi government was selling all the government properties and giving benefits to a few selected industrialists.
Congress legislature party (CLP) leader and former chief minister O Ibobi Singh, CWC member Gaikhangam, MPCC president K Meghachandra and party MLAs were among others who participated in the demonstration.

They staged the demonstration in front of the LIC office after a march from Imphal Congress Bhavan in the afternoon.
Talking to reporters during the demonstration, former chief minister O Ibobi Singh said that the MPCC is staging the demonstration showing solidarity to the AICC’s demand for a probe into the allegations made against the Adani group in the Hindenburg Research report.
Quoting the report, Ibobi alleged that LIC and banks were forced to invest about Rs 26,500 crore and Rs 80,000 crore respectively in the Adani group and Congress is worried about the people who have invested their hard earned income in LIC and banks.
The US based Hindenburg Research also alleged fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation at the Gautam Adani-led group, he said.

The former three time chief minister alleged that the meltdown in Adani Group shares is a scam involving common people’s money. It involved common people’s money as they invested in these public sectors – LIC and SBI, he added.
Taking part in the demonstration, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that over 29 crore people from across the country have deposited money to the LIC and the LIC invested the money to the Adani group without the consent of the account holders.
In the same manner, there are around 45 crore bank account holders in SBI and the money deposited by them to the banks through their accounts were invested to the Adani group without the consent of the account holders, he further alleged.
The MPCC president charged that the SBI and LIC authorities invested the money under undue pressure by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While reiterating the demand for a probe into the scam, the MPCC president said the money lost after being invested in the Adani group is public money and not for the government or the Prime Minister Modi.
Similar demonstrations in front of the offices of the LIC and SBI were staged across all the districts of the state, Meghachandra informed.
