Imphal: Congress party on Friday drew the attention of the house of Manipur Legislative Assembly to initiate legal action against members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP.
“Legal action must be initiated against the members of the BJYM who attacked the Congress party office while staging a protest in front of the party office on Thursday”, Congress member K Ranjit demanded during the zero hour of the ongoing monsoon session of the state Assembly.
On Thursday, members of the BJYM, Manipur Pradesh led by its president Barish Sharma burnt the effigy of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi just at the gate of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) office while protesting against a recent Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s remark on President Droupadi Murmu.
While holding the protest, the BJYM members had even tried to attack Congress workers who came out to close the office gate.

“Protests for certain matters or issues are allowed in democracy. However, such violent protests of targeting a party office, threatening party members and shouting unparliamentary words are illegal and against the rule of law”, Ranjit observed.
He drew the attention of the chief minister who is also the in-charge of the Home department to initiate legal action against the BJYM members involved in the event.
He said that by initiating legal action against the BJYM members, the government should show that there is rule of law in the state.
Ranjit alleged that the BJYM members indulged in the act taking undue advantage of being their parent body (BJP) in power.
