Imphal: “National People’s Party (NPP) will lead the next government to be formed in Manipur after the elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly,” said NPP National President Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister is currently in Imphal to campaign for the party for the upcoming polls in the state. Sangma took part in political conferences of the party in some assembly constituencies in Imphal areas today. He also attended an interaction programme with youths of Singjamei assembly constituency in Imphal West district held under the theme, “NPP As Saviour of Northeast.”

Sangma said that even though NPP is a National Party, it believes in regionalism and has been working in the interest of the people of the northeast region.

Claiming that the popularity of the party is increasing with every passing day in the region, the Meghalaya Chief Minister claimed that it is the only party which understands the genuine problems faced by the people of the Northeast region. “Like in other states of the region, the popularity of the party is increasing with every passing day in Manipur too. Many intending candidates seeking the party’s tickets proved this,” he said. “As such, the party will emerge as the single largest party after the 2022 assembly elections of Manipur if not secure an absolute majority,” Sangma added.

Conrad Sangma then claimed that the party (NPP) is now not only a national level party but also the largest party in the northeast region. He added that the NPP is a political party working with the sole objective of protecting the indigenous peoples of the region and their cultures.

Sangma arrived in Imphal on Monday on a three-day visit to the state to take part in the election rallies of the party.

Meanwhile, NPP national Vice-President and Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar said that the party will secure more than 20 seats. “NPP is expecting to win more than 20 seats and will play a crucial role in the formation of the next government after the elections,” he further said.
