Contractor Found Shot Dead in Kakching; Grenade Recovered Near Singjamei Fuel Station

UKHRUL: A 51-year-old Meitei contractor was found dead inside his vehicle with bullet injuries on Friday in Kakching district, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

The deceased was identified as Chingakham Malemnganba Meitei, a resident of Tejpur Awang Leikai. He was allegedly attacked and shot by two unidentified individuals around 6:30 pm at Keirak Awang Leikai.

Police have registered a case at Kakching Police Station and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused. However, the exact motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained.

After a mobile forensic spot examination, the body was sent to the morgue at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.

In a separate incident, police recovered a hand grenade planted at a fuel station at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, located less than a kilometre from Singjamei Police Station.

Police said the grenade was safely recovered and a warning note was also found at the site. According to Hindustan Times, the note reportedly read: “last warning KCP (PWG).” The Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) is a banned underground outfit active in Manipur.
