Ukhrul, September 13: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) on Saturday held a public consultation and deliberation at Kangpokpi following the recent talks between the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and the Suspension of Operation Groups, the KNO/UPF, along with the Kuki Zo Council (KZC), a conglomerate of all civil society organisations, on September 3 and 4. The talks resulted in an agreement for a “negotiated political settlement” for the Kuki-Zo community in a time-bound manner.

The consultation was organised to dispel reservations and apprehensions over what CoTU described as a “two-faced agreement,” while reaffirming its unequivocal stand for Separate Administration.
In the public meeting, a resolution was adopted, with representatives of the Suspension of Operation Groups reaffirming their commitment to uphold the people’s aspirations for Separate Administration in the form of a Union Territory under Article 239A of the Constitution of India. They stressed that they would never deviate or waver from these commitments and would remain in consultation with the public before any decision is taken.
The resolution also stated that the Kuki-Zo community has resolved to abide by and uphold the 8-Points Public Resolution adopted on its 22nd Remembrance Day at the Martyr’s Cemetery, Phaijang.
