CoTU Announces Economic Blockade Over Abduction of Kamginlen Chongloi

Kangpokpi, October 7: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, has expressed regret over the government’s indifference towards the abduction of Kamginlen Chongloi, which took place on October 2, 2025, at Makhan Village near Indira Gandhi National Tribal University.

In a statement issued, CoTU said that despite the expiry of the 48-hour ultimatum served to the government regarding the incident, no concrete steps have been taken to resolve the matter. The committee further stated that the reluctance of the Ministry of Home Affairs to address the security preparedness at the buffer zones between the two geographical divides undermines the fears and insecurities of the Kuki-Zo community in the region.

With the expiry of the ultimatum on October 4, 2025, CoTU announced that it is compelled to impose an economic blockade starting from midnight of October 7 until midnight of October 9, 2025. The blockade will continue until the demands for improved security preparedness at the buffer zones are met and the safety of commuters travelling between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur through Makhan and Leikhampokpi villages is ensured.
