Ukhrul: The Committee on Tribal Unity, Kangpokpi, has raised concerns regarding the safety of Centre Security Forces in Manipur, particularly the Centre Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), amidst threats from “Meitei VBIG terrorists”. CoTU has called upon the Centre Government, especially the Home Ministry, to address this pressing issue.
The recent incident involving an attempted kidnapping of CRPF personnel, including one Lensat Sitlhou at Shantipur, Kanglatombi, on May 8th, 2024, by Meitei militants and Arambai Tenggol, has raised serious security questions, maintained CoTU.
The Kuki-Zo Kangpokpi civil body stated that the ambush of CRPF at Naranseina last month, which the Committee alleges was an attempt by the state’s Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, and others to divert attention from the involvement of “state and their secessionist Meitei VBIG.

“Therefore, in order to maintain their effectiveness, the said Centre Security Forces must be protected from any political influences of the state and to recover those looted arms from the state armory; the Centre Security Forces should be granted more power by way of imposition of AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Power Act) in all 19 Police Stations within greater Imphal most immediately in order to thwart these secessionist VBIGs from disintegrating and Talibanizing the North Eastern states,” added CoTU in a statement issued on Wednesday evening.
