CoTU Kangpokpi, ITLF Churachandpur vehemently opposes GoM Home Dept’s public notification

Kangpokpi, Dec 22: The Committee on Tribal Unity in Kangpokpi district has vehemently opposed the public notice of home department, government of Manipur issued on December 21 on plying of vehicles along sensitive National Highways in the state. CoTU said the “notice is issued to portray normalisation in violence hit state so that the invidious affairs of the state is concealed.”

“It is well know facts that sporadic frisking to identify Kuki-Zo in the Imphal valley continues unabated and even a fool won’t make a mistake of travelling to Imphal valley,” CoTU maintained.

Stating that the Kuki-Zo community does not accept any kind of tyrannical policies detrimental to their survival and well being, it said that the “Kuki-Zo populace is emotionally separated with the valley of death i.e Imphal.” Added that the Kuki-Zo populace are pursuing their political separation from the state of Manipur, CoTU further said the “intentional-conjecture of the home department, headed by the Chief Minister instantly disclose its authoritarian disposition and partisan administration.”

The Committee on Tribal Unity has appealed the state government to withdraw its order in “toto” and any untoward incidents arising out of it be the sole responsibility of the concern authorities, it warned.

Similarly, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum on Friday informed the general public that all the borders within the Lamka [Churachandpur] district and Manipur (Bishnupur) will be sealed for security reasons in a press statement.

“We have received intelligent input about an imminent threat by the Meitei to disrupt the Christmas season,” said ITLF.

All non-tribals within the district are not allowed to move out of the district and those non-tribal from outside are not permitted to move inside the district from December 23 till January 5, 2024 ITLF notified.

The Manipur Police, as per the home department public notice tweeted the notification on their X handle on Friday. “It is for information of all, that the Imphal – Kangpokpi – Mao Highway and the Imphal Bishnupur – Churachandpur Highway are operational and open for use by all. For convenience and security of the people using the Highways, additional security forces have been deployed under the operational command of the following senior officers: (i)Shri Nishit Kumar Ujjwal, IPS, lGP (Zone-III) – for Imphal – Kangpokpi – Mao Highway (ii)Shri K. Kabib, IPS, IGP (Zone – II/ Int/ NAB) – for lmphal – Bishnupur – Churachandpur Highway Convoy along the routes will start as per the following details: (i)Imphal – Kangpokpi – Mao Highway: a.9:00 AM onwards (movement towards Mao) – assembly of trucks/ vehicles at BOC b.9:00 AM onwards (movement towards Imphal) – assembly of trucks/ vehicles at Senapati HQ (ii)Imphal – Bishnupur – Churachandpur Highway: a.9:00 AM onwards (movement towards Churachandpur) – assembly of trucks/ vehicles at Malom b.9:00 AM onwards (movement towards Imphal) – assembly of trucks/ vehicles at Torbung This will be effective from 23rd December, 2023. All residents are requested to take note of the above information and to cooperate in public interest.”
