Country made canoe capsizes in Kumbi Khuga River, Bishnupur claims two brothers

A 17-year-old, Laishram Solomon and Laishram Jasua 13-year-old died on Monday when the wooden country made canoe they were in capsized in Kumbi Khuga river in Bishnupur district. Laishram David 15-year-old from the same family survived the incident. Their parents are Laishram Chandrakumar (50) and Laishram (O) Sangita (45) from Kumbi Uyung Makhong, under Kumbi Police Station.

The fateful incident of the minor siblings is said to have taken place at around 5:30 AM on Monday at Kumbi Khuga river which is close in proximity to Kumbi Uyungmakhong Dam.

Sources said that the three siblings were on their way to paddy field on a normal day. David who survived the incident called for help. Upon hearing the news of the incident, the locality rushed to the spot and searched Jausa and Solomon. Their bodies were fished out by villagers around 7:30 AM. The two brothers were pronounced dead a the nearest Primary Health Centre at Kumbi. The family is survived by their younger sister, David and parents.

A report in The Frontier Manipur informed that Kumbi Urban Development Committee (KUDC) president Nongmaithem Prakash expressed shock over the incident and contended that the unfortunate incident occurred due to the bad economic condition of the family. It is unfortunate that the two boys had to be cremated on the same day, he lamented. KUDC secretary Wahengbam Rorkychand said that the family might plunge into further troubles, economically, due to the incident. As such, he appealed to the state government and concerned authorities to help the poor family.
