Couple held with 1.426 kg of heroin in Manipur

Imphal: Police in  Kakching district of Manipur recovered a huge quantity of heroin powder and arrested three alleged drug paddlers including two women while another woman escaped.

Police on Friday said that a team of police commandos in Kakching district apprehended a couple with 1.426 kg of suspected heroin powder on Thursday.

The couple have been identified as Mangkhup (36) of Chandel district and his wife  Lamkhoneng (29), according to the police. They were detained after the contraband drug was detected in a Bolero vehicle they came with during a check by the police commando team at Serou Lamkhai under Sugnu police station of Kakching district bordering Chandel district.

Upon thorough checking of the vehicle, 110 soap cases containing suspected heroin were detected concealed in the side doors. The drugs were found to weigh 1.426 kg in total, the police also said.

The arrested persons along with the seized items were handed over to Sugnu police station for taking further necessary action, the police added. In another operation, the police commandos of the same district arrested a woman later identified as M Carolyn Chinkholhing (22) of Chandel district with 139 gm of suspected heroin powder on Thursday, around 3 pm.

The police said that on seeing the police commandos on routine patrol approaching Zou Veng, two women ran away suspiciously.

When the police commandos chased after, they ran into a house. They immediately cordoned off the house and detained one of the women while the other managed to run away.

While escaping, the woman dropped two bags at the spot later found containing 19 tobacco cans containing heroin powder weighing together 139 gm and a cash amount of Rs.47330.

The detained woman was identified as M Carolyn Chinkholhing  (22), the police also said.

The woman admitted that she along with the other woman used to supply the drug to the youths in and around the Sugnu area. She further identified the escaped woman as Nengsuan (60), the police added.
