COVID-19: More containment zones identified in Shillong

Shillong: To restrict unregulated entry and exit movement in buildings, compounds and houses in Shillong which are vulnerable to COVID-19 and which have been affected by the virus, the District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, Matsiewdor War Nongbri has issued an order, declaring them to be containment areas with immediate effect.

The first floor of the building of Shanta Uriah at Streamlet Road in Laban, the house and compound of B. Nongrum at Lumdiengsoh (Motinagar), the house of Ashish Dhar at Upper Jail Road (next to Gini’s complex) and the compound of Swapan Deb and Ruma Deb at Upper Jail Road (near Puja Mandap) have been declared as containment areas, as stated in the order.

The Incident Commander of Zone-II, will be the Supervising Officer for the first-floor building of Shanta Uriah at Streamlet Road in Laban, the Incident Commander of Zone-I will be the Supervising Officer for the house and compound of B. Nongrum at Lumdiengsoh (Motinagar) and the Incident Commander of Zone-III will be the Supervising Officer for the house of Ashish Dhar at Upper Jail Road and the compound of Swapan Deb and Ruma Deb at Upper Jail Road.

“No person is allowed to move into the containment area and inhabitants within the containment area shall not move out, besides all inhabitants within the containment area shall strictly remain inside their home,” said Nongbri.

The order, however, will not apply to health workers and essential workers of Shillong Municipal Board, press including electronic and print media, petrol pumps and LPG delivery workforce. Any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and I.P.C.

Meanwhile, Nongbri has lifted the containment orders for B. Dohling compound at Mawkhar Main Road, the house of B. Dkhar at Amjad Ali Road in Laban, the house of Sushma Talukdar in Burnside area, near Sankardev College Girls Hostel at Rilbong and Mantra building opposite the Puja Mandap in Rilbong, with immediate effect.

However, Nongbri said that a compound at Rilbong from the house of Roma Devkota, Mira Store up to Umjasai River is still retained as containment areas.
