COVID-19 related deaths rise to 11: Manipur

NNN | IMPHAL, Aug 8: Amid the surging cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Manipur, one more death case related to the virus was reported in Manipur on Saturday.

With the death of a 63-year-old man at Covid care facility in JNIMS hospital, the state has so far recorded 11 COVID-19 related deaths till date.

The deceased man who hailed from Khongman area of Imphal East district died on Friday night, around 9.30 pm. He was admitted to the hospital on August 2 last and was tested positive for COVID-19 while undergoing medication in the hospital, sources said. He had a comorbid health condition, a press release of the COVID-19 Common Control Room said while confirming the death.

Meanwhile, the common control room then informed that 169 fresh cases of COVID-19 were detected during testing of 1,982 samples in the last 24 hours in Manipur. With these fresh cases, the state has 3635 cases of the disease, including 1697 active cases and 1927 recovered cases.

The press release also said that only one patient was discharged on Saturday in the state.

The press note then said that, out of the new 169 cases of COVID-19, 75 are from the general population while 94 are personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the control room stated in its latest report. The fresh cases of COVID-19 were detected during testing of 1,982 samples in the past 24 hours. With this, the state has so far tested 98,819 samples.

Among the fresh cases of the disease, 71 of them have no travel history and the remaining four are from Noney district and they are returnees.

Meanwhile, out of the total 3635 COVID-19 cases reported in the state, 2840 are from the general population and 795 from CAPF. The press release also said that, out of the 1927 persons discharged, 1834 are from the general population and the rest 93 are CAPF personnel. The press note also informed that the state has 765 confirmed cases of locally transmitted non-returnee COVID-19 cases, the report added.
