A steady rise in the number of COVID-19 cases was recorded in Manipur as it reported 35 fresh cases in the past 24 hours.
The state recorded 19 positive cases on January 1. It was declined to 16 on the next day (January 2) but increased to 20 again on January 3.
Meanwhile, the 35 fresh cases including five from the Central armed police forces took the overall infection count of the state to 1,25,878, according to the latest bulletin of the state Health department.
As only five patients were discharged upon recovery against the 35 fresh cases, the active cases in the state rose to 257.
Adding the five discharges, the recovery tally of the state rose to 1,23,615 which is 98.20% of the total infections.
The fatality toll also rose to 2,006 with two fresh deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
The deaths were reported in Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts. One of them was vaccinated with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine while the other was not vaccinated, the health department said.
The positivity rate of the day is 1.6% as the fresh cases were detected upon testing of 2,245 samples. The state has so far tested 14,66,590 so far.
Imphal West district reported 10 fresh cases to remain on top among the districts in daily surge of the cases. At nine, Imphal East district followed. The Imphal East is the second worst affected district of the state.
Five new cases were reported in Thoubal district, three each in its neighboring Kakching district and Bishnupur district, two in Kamjong and one each in Chandel, Churachandpur and Senapati district.
The remaining seven districts reported no fresh cases on the day.
On the other hand, the total number of doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered so far in the state rose to 23,22,386 with 5,443 doses inoculated on Monday.
Of these total, 13,28,018 were first doses while the remaining 9,94,368 second doses, the Health department said.
