COVID patient dies after collapsing in bathroom

UT News Service | Shillong, Aug 26: A mentally challenged man who tested positive for COVID-19, died after he collapsed in a bathroom on Wednesday morning in Shillong.

Meghalaya Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the person from 29-Cantonment in Anjalee, collapsed in a bathroom at his residence. “The patient, who was mentally challenged, was taken to the Civil Hospital, Shillong at around 3.30 pm where doctors there have declared him brought dead,” informed Dr. War.

He said that the man had tested positive for COVID-19 at the Anjalee testing centre on August 21 and since the patient was without any symptoms, he was undergoing home isolation.

When asked whether the case will be counted as a COVID death, Dr. War replied saying that the Health Department will however take a call on the matter by Thursday.

Meanwhile, the state so far has recorded a total of 8 deaths due to the viral infection.
