Covid Positive Case in Staff Quarter: Ukhrul District Hospital authority suspends OPD services till Nov 7

Detection of a Covid positive case from an official quarter of a staff member has forced the authority of Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) authority to suspend its Out-Patient Department (OPD) services till November 7.

All emergency services in the district hospital also remained suspended for the day on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in view of the development, the district magistrate on Wednesday declared with immediate effect containment zone for the Staff Quarter No.3 of the district hospital located at Hungpung village.

“The husband of one of our staff members living in the official staffs’ quarter has been found Covid positive this morning during RAT,” the hospital authority confirmed in an official notice.

The patient had become become symptomatic since the last two days, it informed, while adding that many staffers including doctors, nurses and their children living in the staffs’ quarter have been exposed to the primary case.

The UDH authority further informed that OPD in the hospital would remain closed till 7 November, while Emergency services would be closed till 6 am of Thursday to help sanitize the entire contaminated area and also for proper conduct of contact tracing.

During this period till 7 November only emergency cases would be entertained and no new admission for routine treatment would be allowed, it continued.

The hospital authority then stated that the move was initiated to prevent further spread and transmission of the contagion to the general public and also the staff members of the hospital.

“This has been done in the interest of the public and for the safety of everyone”, it said.
