Destruction of illegal poppy cultivation continues in Manipur

Kangpokpi: Destruction of illegal poppy cultivation continues in the hill ranges of Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

The drive clearing illegal poppy cultivation was carried out by a team comprising of 133 men, including 33 Forest personnel from Kangpokpi and Senapati Forest Divisions along with district police of Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts, according to an official statement.

Today, a team led by Range Forest Officer (RFO), Kangpokpi Range cleared 13 hectares of illegal poppy cultivation at T. Khonomphai hill range in Champhai Sub-Division, the official statement said.

Meanwhile, an additional 3 hectares of illegal poppy cultivation was also cleared by a team of district police at Aigejang hill range in Saikul Sub-Division. The team also removed one illegally erected hut at the location, the statement added.

It may be mentioned that on January 19, the same team had cleared 8 hectares of illegal poppy cultivation at T. Khonomphai hill ranges in Champhai Sub-Division. The Forest team was led by N. Ganesh, DFO Kangpokpi, while the police team was led by Abul Kalam, Additional SP, Kangpokpi.
