District-Level Yuva Connect & Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament Held at Tamenglong College; Changkhangliu Ngaomei Wins First Prize

UKHRUL: The District-Level Yuva Connect & Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament (VBYP) 2026 was successfully held at Tamenglong College, under the theme “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy,” on Monday.

Organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the programme aimed to provide a platform for young people to cultivate leadership skills, enhance their personalities, and engage in meaningful discussions on issues shaping the nation’s future, in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

Kinthuijinang Maremmei, Principal, Tamenglong College, was the event’s special guest. Daichui Gangmei, President, Rongmei Naga Students’ Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM), and Guikhan Malingmei, YouTuber of Voices Unveilied participated as Youth Icons. he programme witnessed active participation from youths across Tamenglong district, along with students and faculty members of the college.

The first session, on Yuva Connect, featured addresses by the two Youth Icons, who shared their perspectives on leadership, civic responsibility, and democratic values. This was followed by an interactive segment. The welcome address was delivered by Namsurei Thomas Kamei, Coordinator, IQAC, Tamenglong College and Nodal Officer, Yuva Connect & Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Kinthuijinang Maremmei. The session was moderated byChunlungliu B. Gangmei, Guest Lecturer, Department of Political Science, Tamenglong College.

The second session of the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament, witnessed enthusiastic participation from youths who deliberated on the aforementioned theme, reflecting on the historical significance of the Emergency and its implications for democratic values and institutions in India. Five best participants were selected to represent the district at the state level, including the three winners, Changkhangliu Ngaomei (First), Jemima Phaomei (Second) and Poujianliu Kamei (Third). Cash prizes to the three winners and certificates to all the participants were distributed as part of the programme.

The Youth Parliament session was moderated by NG Tuakeulung, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Coordinator, IGNOU, Tamenglong College, and the jury members included Mr. Namsulung Gonmei, Chairman of Duigailong Village; Dr. Ninglu, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Political Science, Tamenglong College; Mr. David Jiangamlung Kamei, Assistant Professor and Joint Coordinator, IQAC, Tamenglong College; Mr. Akinsin Gangmei, Social Worker; and Mr. Shining Panmei, President, Rongmei Naga Students’ Organisation, Manipur–Tamenglong Lungrian (RNSOM-TL).

The programme concluded on a positive note, with selected teachers and jury members speaking on the importance of the role of youths in strengthening democratic ideals and contributing to nation-building.
