The Dhanamanjuri University Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (DMUTKLI) after having its 1st successful freshers meet held on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister, S Rajen Singh, the chief guest of the event in ‘engagement of regular teaching facility for teaching MIL Communication – Tangkhul, and creation of a Department of Tangkhul at DM University.’
The memorandum submitted drew the attention of the Education Minister December 14, 2020 notice of Dr Ch Sheelaramni, Principal of D M College of Arts, Imphal in incorporating Tangkhul language as MIL subject in the curriculum of the college of Arts from the coming session with December 18, 2020 as the last day to submit subject combination for B A 1st Semester Honours students.

The DM Tangkhul Students Union giving credit to the government said that such development would not have seen the light of day had the BJP led government not come into power, adding that it is the government’s sense of oneness and community participation that the MIL Tangkhul option is credited in DM University.
DMUTKLI expressing appreciation on the noteworthy development acknowledged the chief minister and education minister for their wisdom and leadership pointing out that it gave a sense of belongingness to the Tangkhul students.

DMUTKLI in the memorandum requested the minister to provide regular teaching faculty members for Tangkhul literature for the students who have opted for MIL Communication Tangkhul may avail the Tangkhul MIL classes.
It further requested that a department of Tangkhul Language and Literature be created which will provide opportunity for undergraduate students to comprehensively study the Tangkhul language, folklores and literature, adding that addition of such department will help in understanding, preserving and developing cultural heritage, traditional practices, values and knowledge of the Tangkhul people, it said.
DMUTKLI said it will continue to look up to the constant support and able leadership of the chief minister and education minister to implement the two matters cited in the subject in letter and spirit.
