KANGPOKPI: In a significant effort to alleviate the ongoing distress of residents along the IT Road axis, deputy chief minister Nemcha Kipgen extended vital humanitarian relief packages to several severely affected villages in the region.

Relief assistance comprising 100 bags of rice, 5 bags of sugar, and 10 bags of dal was distributed across key settlements including Chaljang, T. Kholmun, Wakotphai, K. Haimol, Bileijang, and other villages.

The IT Road area was among the hardest hit during a recent three-month-long economic blockade enforced by United Naga Council (UNC) volunteers. The blockade choked off the region’s sole major supply arterial, causing prices of essential commodities to skyrocket and plunging local communities into severe socio-economic distress.

Although the official blockade ended, residents along the IT Road axis continue to face profound hardship as it remains virtually stranded—unable to travel freely or access basic supply markets due to persistent threats to their safety and security.

The distribution specifically targeted villages that have endured recent armed attacks and remain highly vulnerable to ongoing instability. By hand-delivering relief through local community elders, the initiative ensured essential sustenance reaches families living under physical isolation and continuous strife.

Receiving the essential items, local leaders expressed gratitude for the timely intervention and called on authorities to implement long-term security measures and guarantee safe transit across the vital transport corridor.
