SHILLONG: With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Enumeration Phase underway in Meghalaya since June 30, the District Election Office, East Khasi Hills, on Friday convened a meeting with representatives of political parties to strengthen oversight and ensure transparency in the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise.
Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, addressed concerns arising from allegations that a Booth Level Officer (BLO) had distributed enumeration forms from the residence of a former legislator of the 10-West Shillong Assembly Constituency.
Baranwal informed the meeting that an on-the-spot inspection had been carried out on Thursday by the Additional Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) to verify the allegations. Following the inspection, the concerned BLO was instructed to immediately retrieve all enumeration forms distributed between June 30 and July 2.
To ensure proper implementation of the exercise, the BLO supervisor has been directed to personally assist the BLO in distributing enumeration forms from July 3 onwards. Additionally, the AERO of the constituency has been tasked with making daily visits to the polling part to closely monitor the distribution process until the enumeration is completed.
The District Election Officer also briefed political party representatives on the progress of the exercise, stating that a total of 63,731 enumeration forms had been distributed as of July 2, excluding the Sohra Sub-Division.

Clarifying the objective of the Special Intensive Revision, Baranwal reiterated that the exercise is aimed at enumerating existing electors based on the 2025 electoral rolls and the 2005 legacy electoral roll. He stressed that allegations suggesting the enrolment of new ineligible voters through the process are “ill-founded.”
Concluding the meeting, Baranwal called upon all stakeholders, including political parties and Dorbar Shnongs, to work together to ensure the smooth, transparent and successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision process.
