UKHRUL, AUG 14: the Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) declared an emergency total shutdown across all Liangmai Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur in response to the killing and injuries.
In its statement, the LNC-M said two Naga village volunteers were killed and several others injured in an alleged attack by KNF-P cadres at around 7:30 am.
The shutdown will continue until further notice, with shops, offices, institutions and other non-essential activities directed to remain closed. Medical, fire and other emergency services have been exempted.
The LNC-M appealed to the public to observe the shutdown peacefully and urged the authorities to take immediate measures to protect civilians and bring those responsible to justice.
Two Naga farmers were killed and two others grievously injured after armed men allegedly attacked villagers at Langka Naga village under Kangpokpi district on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Wiriliangbou Chawang, 35, and Kawidinang Abonmai, 54. The injured were identified as Maliangjinang Abonmai, 50, and Namthiulungbou Prinmai, 45. The injured were airlifted by the Indian Army from Haochong to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, at around 5:30 pm for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, according to the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL-WC), the attack took place at around 7:30 am and involved around 50 cadres allegedly led by Kuki National Front (KNF) leader Jangboi Kipgen, along with cadres of the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA).
The TNL-WC condemned the attack and alleged that the incident was part of a series of attacks targeting Naga villages amid the continuing conflict in Manipur.
It also alleged that the incident came days after houses in Kailenjang were set ablaze on August 10, and questioned the continued presence of armed groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Government of India.
The Tangkhul body called on the state and central governments to take immediate action against those responsible for the attack and ensure the safety of civilians.
The TNL-WC, meanwhile, expressed condolences to the families of the two deceased villagers and said the Tangkhul community would remain united in the face of the situation.
