Erratic Power Supply Fumes Ukhrul Populace

Ukhrul: The power outages have caused much hardship and inconvenience to the general public and also compelled the shutdown of internet services at the Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul. The National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ukhrul, was unable to provide internet access to government offices at Ukhrul Headquarters due to the power outage spanning the entire day.

Many government offices dealing with online services like issuing certificates such as tribe certificates, income certificates and other certificates to be processed online could not be processed today. Many could be seen leaving and wasting their day waiting for the internet service to be functional.

Meanwhile, the Medical Superintendent (MS) of Ukhrul District Hospital Dr Reisangmi Raikhan also informed that the medical equipment that was run by electricity was severely affected and unable to discharge services in time to needy patients. He further mentioned temporary suspension on issuing birth and death certificates at the hospital.

When our correspondent interacted with entrepreneurs and some of the workshop owners in the town, they expressed the terrible and chronic problem faced by the erratic supply of power for the last couple of days.

Meanwhile, the MSPCL officer-in-charge of the Imphal-Ukhrul power line stated that the frequent power cut in the district was due to power drift.

No jungle clearance in the region and incessant rainfall in the last couple days were the main causes of the power drift. We are working very hard to restore the power supply. It should be restored in the evening, stated the officer. The MSCPL officer also mentioned their difficulties due to the shortage of staff. The ongoing unrest in Manipur is also a factor as most non-tribal employees are unwilling to work in the hilly region fearing insecurity.
