An under trial prisoner (UTP), who escaped from police custody on November 26, was again arrested on Wednesday from Tura in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, police said.

West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Dr MGR Kumar said Johnstar R Sangma was arrested this afternoon after a police team received inputs about his presence in Tura.

Sangma had escaped from police after feigning to not respond to treatment following a bout of vomiting. The doctors of the Tura District Jail became concerned after he was not responding to treatment being given to him.

Police took the prisoner to the Tura Civil Hospital for treatment. However, he was able to jump out of the moving vehicle when it slowed down just before reaching the hospital even carrying the IV drip that he had been administered, police said.

Sangma, a resident of Siju in South Garo Hills was in jail for an alleged case of sexual assault.
