Ukhrul, July 12: In yet another unbreakable community spirit of one of Manipur’s most remote hill districts, residents of Chabagan Tamenglong Ward No. 8 joined hands to repair the road stretch between Marylane and Chabagan as the route remained ignored by authorities.
Frustrated by the negligence of the concerned authorities in maintaining the road which is a critical route that connects Tamenglong district headquarters and Tousem sub-division, the locals pooled funds, sacrificed trucks and other vehicles as well as contributed their own labor to repair the dilapidated road.

This road also serves as a lifeline for many villages of Tousem sub-division, which is considered one of the most remote areas in the district and connects the state with Assam.
Led by the Chabagan Development Committee, the residents took matters into their own hands as concerned authorities’ negligence coupled with incessant rain deteriorated the road conditions, adding woes to the residents in their daily commute.
One local elder Rd Apan said the road has been abandoned by the government authorities for over 30 years and urged the authorities to help maintain the road.
