Ukhrul, June 28: Locals of Tamenglong Ward No.3 came together to repair the dilapidated road as concerned authorities failed to address the issue. Aiming to ensure that the roads are safe and motorable, the locals repaired the Tamenglong College approach road from Medical Gate in the district headquarters on Saturday.

During the rainy season, the road becomes slushy and muddy, causing immense hardship for the people during their daily commute.

Chairman of Tamenglong Ward No. 3  Azon Gonmei told the media that the Tamenglong College and piggery farm road also serves as a bypass road for District Hospital Tamenglong, which is situated 3 KM away from the district headquarters.

“The road has deteriorated after incessant rain but the concerned government authorities continue to turn blind eyes to the people’s misery. The road becomes difficult to commute even by foot,” Gonmei said.

Seeing the deplorable conditions of the road and lack of response from the authorities, the locals of Tamenglong Ward No. 3 and surrounding areas stepped in to make a difference. The locals not only contributed financially but also volunteered their labour and brought their tools to help repair the road. The road has been repaired without a single penny from the government, Gonmei added.

Tamenglong district is one of the hill districts of Manipur. It is the farthest district from the state capital, Imphal. It is situated 147 KM away from Imphal.
