UKHRUL: A devastating fire engulfed East Block, Zeliang Colony in Burma Camp, Dimapur on an early Sunday (December 14) around 6:30 a.m.
According to Press Trust of India, officials said the blaze has rendered hundreds of residents homeless.
Fire tenders from the Central West and Chümoukedima Fire Stations reached the spot on time; however, narrow internal roads and the lack of parking space within the colony hampered firefighting operations.
The GB of East Block stated that nearly 300 houses across nine rows were completely destroyed in the fire. The Colony Council is currently assessing the extent of the damage and preparing a list of affected families.
The cause of the fire has not been ascertained.
