UKHRUL: Tensions escalated in parts of Kamjong district following a reported firing incident near Chassad village on March 25, prompting strong reactions from community organisations.
In a statement, the Kuki Inpi Manipur described the incident as “alarming” and expressed concern over what it termed an attempt to target villages in the Chassad area as well as in parts of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. The organisation stated that such developments risk undermining peace and called for restraint among all communities.
Referring to the broader ethnic conflict in the state, the Kuki Inpi said the Kuki community has faced significant hardship and displacement, and appealed to other tribal groups to uphold “justice, peace, and brotherhood.” It warned that continued attacks on villages could lead to further displacement and potentially escalate tensions.
The organisation also urged authorities to take immediate steps to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of vulnerable villages.
Meanwhile, the Chassad Youth Club alleged that armed Tangkhul militants carried out a firing incident near the vicinity of Chassad police station at around 5:40 pm on March 25, putting civilians at risk. The group termed the incident as a serious threat to public safety and questioned the adequacy of security arrangements in the area.

The Youth Club further referred to a meeting held on March 24 with district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, where assurances had reportedly been given regarding the deployment of security personnel at key locations. It expressed concern that the incident occurred before such measures were implemented.
Raising concerns over security lapses, the organisation called on the district administration to take immediate action against those responsible and sought clarification from authorities regarding the incident.
Both organisations have called for urgent intervention to prevent further escalation and restore normalcy in the region.
