Imphal: A five-year-old boy succumbed to rabies caused by a dog bite at a hospital in Imphal late on Saturday last.
The boy was identified as S. Monti. He hailed from Wangoo Ahallup of Bishnupur district, Manipur, reports said.
A dog had bitten the boy twice around two months ago. His family treated the wounds at home, according to the reports.
It was only after the boy started developing symptoms around 15 days ago that his family members went to a local healthcare centre.
With no sign of improvement, he was shifted to a childcare hospital in Imphal where doctors suspected infected by rabies.
On the recommendation of the doctors, his blood sample was sent for testing to a testing facility outside the state. The test results received on December 1 confirmed that he was infected with rabies, the reports added.
The boy, however, succumbed to the disease late on Saturday, the reports also said.
