Flash flood claims one life in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, AUG 23: A flash flood claimed a life of an elderly man. He was washed away by flooding water of Ningdangke stream in Tuensang district of Nagaland on Thursday, reports said today.

Sudden and heavy down pour of rain in the afternoon of Thursday in Chessore area of Tuensang caused flash flood.

The reports said the victim was a retired pipe fitter from Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) identified as one Mukhe Yimkhiung. 

 Later, his body was recovered in the evening several hundred metres away from where he was washed away.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on August 20 informed of heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Kohima, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Mon, Kiphire, Zunheboto, Phek, Peren. “It is therefore important to take necessary precautionary measures during this time and exercise caution from lightning strikes and gale winds which may cause disruption in communication and connectivity,” the NSDMA notification had said.
