Former BJYM President Barish Sharma arrested in connection with Kwakeithel Shooting case

Imphal, October 22: Former president of the Manipur unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Manoharmayum Barish Sharma was arrested by the police, a police source said on Sunday.

The police arrested him in connection with a case registered with the Imphal police station in connection with a shooting incident at Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai in Imphal West on October 14 night, in which five persons including a woman were injured.

Locals have been accusing Sharma as the main accused of the shooting incident at a crowd by around 20 armed miscreants who attempted to abduct a local man from his house.

The police source said that Manoharmayum Barish Sharma was arrested from his house at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal in Imphal East district by a team of Imphal police station on Saturday night.

He was produced before the Imphal West district magistrate today where he was remanded to police custody for four days, till Oct 25.

Regarding the October 14 night firing incident, the police had already arrested five persons including incumbent vice president of BJYM Manipur Pradesh Nongthombam Tony Meitei (36) of Langthabal Lep Mayai Leikai.

The police source said that Barish Sharma was arrested on Saturday night, around 11.20 pm from his house at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal in Imphal East.

Barish was charged with the Arms Act, violation of curfew, criminal intimidation, and attempted to murder.
