Four From Manipur Honoured with Gallantry Awards, Bringing Pride to the State

UKHRUL: Four servicemen from Manipur have been conferred prestigious gallantry awards for their exceptional courage, dedication to duty, and distinguished service to the nation, earning widespread praise and bringing immense pride to the state.

Among the awardees, Sub-Inspector (CT/GD) Deepak Chingakham of Yairipok Yambem in Imphal East district was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase-I) held in New Delhi. The gallantry award was conferred by President Droupadi Murmu and received on his behalf by his parents, Chingakham Ibemhal Devi and Chingakham Bonbihari Singh.

Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik of Keikhu, Imphal East, was also awarded the Vir Chakra in recognition of his exceptional bravery and distinguished service during Operation Sindoor.

Major Leishangthem Deepak Singh of 11 Para (Special Forces) and Rifleman Manglem Sang Vaiphei of 3 Assam Rifles were conferred the Shaurya Chakra for displaying extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment in the line of duty. Vaiphei, who hails from Churachandpur district, was recognised for his gallantry and tactical acumen during a counter-infiltration operation.

Congratulating the decorated personnel, Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh described the honours as a matter of immense pride for the people of the state. He said the awards reflected the courage, professionalism, and dedication that Manipur’s servicemen continue to demonstrate while serving the nation.

Paying tribute to the late Sub-Inspector Deepak Chingakham, the Chief Minister said he made the supreme sacrifice in service of the country. He also lauded Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik and Rifleman Manglem Sang Vaiphei for their exemplary bravery and steadfast commitment to duty.

“Their valour, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to India will continue to inspire generations,” Singh took on X.

In separate social media posts, the Chief Minister praised Major Leishangthem’s courage, dedication and service to the nation. He similarly commended Rifleman Vaiphei for his exceptional tactical skills, and distinguished service, noting that his gallantry serves as a source of inspiration for the youth of Manipur.
