Free Cataract and Pterygium Surgeries Conducted for Ten Patients from Chandel

Chandel, November 8: The District Health Society, Chandel, has extended its heartfelt gratitude to the Directorate of Health Services Manipur, the National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur, and the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) for successfully conducting free cataract and pterygium surgeries for ten individuals from the district.

The surgeries were performed on November 7 at the State Ophthalmic Cell, Imphal, under the guidance of Dr. Vikram Singh Khoisnam, State Nodal Officer of NPCB&VI.

The beneficiaries were identified during a Free Eye Camp held on October 27 at District Hospital Chandel, where more than 250 people received free eye check-ups, spectacles, and medicines. The camp was organized as part of the State-level observation of World Sight Day 2025 with the theme “Love Your Eyes,” jointly coordinated by NPCB&VI, the State Health Society NHM Manipur, the Directorate of Health Services Manipur, and the District Health Society Chandel.

According to Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang, tChief Medical Officer/Mission Director, District Health Society, Chandel, the successful surgeries were the outcome of strong collaboration and collective effort among all stakeholders. The district health officials also expressed appreciation to the state authorities for their continued support in ensuring quality healthcare services reach the people of Chandel.
