Fresh firing by armed miscreants along Imphal-Ukhrul road, no casualty

Ukhrul: Fresh gunfight has been reported between Urangpat and Gwaltabi along the Imphal-Ukhrul National Highway-202 on Friday. Urangpat is located opposite to Yaingangpokpi police station, around 21 kilometers away from the capital city Imphal.  

As per reliable sources, the fresh gunfight between the security forces and armed miscreants took place at around 12 pm and lasted for few hours. However, no casualty or injuries were reported at the time of filing this news.

Security forces deployed cordoned off the area to prevent from further escalation.

Meanwhile, a huge number of Meira Paibis are gathered at Yaingangpokpi bazaar, leading to obstruction of vehicle movement along the Imphal-Ukhrul Highway, said sources. Many passengers travelling along the Ukhrul to Imphal NH-202 are stranded, causing severe inconveniences especially those en route to catch flights in Imphal airport.

After the gunfights, all business establishments has been disturbed and closed, said a local at Yaingangpokpi bazaar.

Spear Corps, Indian Army said that “Group of armed miscreants sneaked into the area from Yaingangpokpi towards hill side today afternoon. Miscreants firing automatic weapons towards villages of Urangpat and Gwaltabi. Security Forces Columns deployed in these vacant villages responding in calibrated manner to avoid any collateral damage. Large group of women part of mob in Yaingangpokpi and Seijang area preventing movement of additional columns into the area.”
