UKHRUL: The Chawangkining Village Authority has sought the immediate intervention of the Kangpokpi deputy commissioner over an alleged attempt by a group of people to encroach on village land and begin unauthorised house construction on September 19.
In a complaint submitted to the Kangpokpi district deputy commissioner, the village authority alleged that around 30 to 40 Kuki refugees, reportedly from the Kangpokpi and Moahing areas, arrived at around 10.30 am and began preparations to construct a house on an vacant plot above the Chawangkining football ground.

The VA objected to the alleged construction, asserting that the land belonged to local landowners, and urged the district administration to intervene immediately to prevent further escalation of tensions.
The complaint comes amid heightened tensions following alleged armed attacks on Chawangkining village on September 15 and 16. According to the village authority, the attacks targeted civilians and damaged property, with two houses and a grocery shop reportedly burnt down, causing fear, insecurity and financial hardship among villagers.
The Chawangkining Village Authority said the reported attempt to construct a house on the disputed plot had further heightened concerns in an already sensitive situation.
It then urged the district deputy commissioner to take immediate steps to stop the alleged unauthorised construction and prevent further escalation. The authority warned that failure to intervene effectively could compel villagers to take their own course of action to protect what they described as their rightful land ownership.
The allegations are based on the village authority’s complaint.
