Fresh violence in Kangpokpi’s Keithelmanbi area; Houses torched, no casualties

Kangpokpi: The situation in Manipur turned volatile after a brief lull, with reports of fresh violence involving armed miscreants in adjoining areas of Imphal West District and Kangpokpi District.

Armed miscreants reportedly started firing towards Keithelmanbi village under the Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West District, bordering Kangpokpi District, around 9 PM on Wednesday. The firing continued until around 1 AM Thursday.

In the ensuing firing, miscreants set fire to a storehouse of firewood in Keithelmanbi village.

The arson incident occurred approximately 50 meters away from a Central Reserve Police Force camp in the area.

After the arson and firing incidents at Keithelmanbi village, miscreants burnt down two houses at Sinam Kaithong Village, which falls under the Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi District.

Firing between armed miscreants continued till dawn for around half an hour, from 5 AM to 5:30 AM.

There are no reports of casualties in these incidents.

In response to the violence, paramilitary forces, including the CRPF, Gorkha Regiment, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police, have heightened security measures in the affected area.

Manipur Police in response to the firing incident took to X, “As regards to the incidents of arson reported by various local newspaper today, it is clarified that unknown miscreant torched some firewood belonging to a Meitei family of Keithelmanbi. The same was doused by the security forces…”
