Fresh violence reported in Manipur’s Sabungkhok Khunou; 3 injured

Imphal: Fresh violence has been reported in Manipur, leaving at least three village volunteers injured. Armed miscreants positioned on a hilltop allegedly rained bullets and bombs towards Sabungkhok Khunou foothill village in Imphal East district since the early hours of Thursday. In response, state forces and village volunteers engaged in crossfire with the attackers.

Additionally, there are allegations that personnel from the JAT regiment deployed in the area deleted pictures and videos captured by local media persons raising questions over their transparency and accountability in the region.

Meira Paibi women in the village have accused security forces of failing to prevent such frequent attacks despite giving them assurances of protection.

A police team, led by Imphal East Additional SP Herojit has assessed the situation. Reinforcements have also been dispatched to Sabungkhok Khunou due to the volatile situation.
