From Ukhrul to Japan: A New Chapter for Six Young Graduates

Ukhrul, August 31: For six young graduates from Ukhrul, the journey of the past nine months has been nothing short of transformative. Selected for an intensive Japanese language and work-culture program at the NSDC International Centre in Greater Noida, they are now preparing to board flights to Japan, where professional opportunities await.

The initiative, spearheaded by Ram Muivah, a retired IAS officer and the current MLA of 44 Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, was made possible through collaboration with Luckyson Kashung, IAS, Director of Skill Development, Government of Manipur; Masot Zimik, State Engagement Officer, NSDC; and Kashing Shingnaisui, DPMU, PM Vishwakarma. Together, they opened a pathway that connects young talent from Ukhrul to global careers.

For the candidates, the rewards are significant said Ram Muivah: free airfare to Japan, entry-level salaries averaging more than Rs. 1 lakh per month, and the chance to build a future in one of the world’s most advanced economies. Beyond financial stability, however, lies the broader promise of personal growth and cultural exchange.

“This milestone is not only about employment,” said MLA Ram Muivah. “It is about empowering our youth with the skills and confidence to compete globally, while carrying the identity and values of our community wherever they go.”

The six graduates now stand as trailblazers — the first batch of young professionals from Ukhrul to complete this program and secure work placements in Japan. Their success, Ram Muivah said, is a beginning rather than an end. More selections are expected in the months to come, creating a pipeline of opportunities for the district’s youth.
